Dr. Nancy Bromberg grew up in Brooklyn, New York, and began her academic journey at Brooklyn College before attending the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, where she earned her VMD in 1978. After a year in general practice, she was awarded an NIH Fellowship in Comparative Ophthalmology at the University of Florida. During her three-year fellowship and residency, she also earned a master’s degree and achieved Diplomate status with the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ACVO) in 1982.
Dr. Bromberg spent more than 40 years in full-time clinical practice in the Washington, D.C., area before retiring from regular practice. Throughout her career, she actively participated in the ACVO Service Animal Eye Exam program and volunteered with the Humane Rescue Alliance (formerly the Washington Animal Rescue League). She also contributed her expertise to the National Zoo, performing specialized procedures such as eyelid surgery on a Giant Panda and cataract surgeries on an otter and a crane chick.
A passionate sailor, Dr. Bromberg now resides in Annapolis, Maryland, where she enjoys time with family, friends, and her two English Springer Spaniels. She is an avid traveler and wildlife photographer, with a special love for Africa. Her commitment to making a difference extends globally—she has sponsored the education of two young women in Kenya, helping them stay in school rather than marry at an early age.
Today, Dr. Bromberg provides pro bono services for the Anne Arundel SPCA and Warrior Canine Connection and offers relief work for veterinary ophthalmology practices and veterinary colleges. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) and is available for CAER (formerly CERF) eye exams and ophthalmology relief services.
